A new twiSt On old wisdOm.

…and said, verily I say unto you, except ye be converted and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven
– Matthew 18: 3 – 4 KJV

One of the beautiful aspects of scripture is its wide range of application – the hidden practical jewels that can find beneath the surface stones. To play like a child, to move and stay low each morning  during yoga practice is essential to maintaining the supple flexibility of our youth. Small children, even after they learn to walk, are often found playing on the floor. Flexing, twisting and stretching without notice or injury. The floor is a gateway to good health. It not only promotes youthful agility, the lower postures help return us to an abandoned humility. An often forgotten world beckons beneath our feet.

one rocks his head,

one sways his feet,

perched in a nest
three levels steep

like birds in a tree,
this how they sleep.

a bunk of six
made for three,

feathered pillows,
elbows and knees,

feathers floating
making you sneeze,

dreams piled high
as could be.

first there were four,

then came Neat.

at the center
was you, tall and slender
the biggest smile
I ever knew.

the foundation was Good,
bearing the weight
no one else could.

in the other room
slept baby P.,

dreaming dreams
we couldn’t see.
